Freshman Reflection

Before I had came to The High School called Parkway West, I was very different. I was going to a Charter School called Walter D. Palmer Leadership Learning Partners Charter School. In their I really didn't like to do my work and play around most of the time. Instead of me putting my work first I would put Fun time/play around first. I often realized that I should be giving my all so I can get into a very good High school, but it was just the end of the year so I wanted to have fun with my classmates and friends one more time. Now I see my strives and expectations differently. In Parkway I put my work first and when I am done my work I choose to play around later. Also before i wouldn't get very good grades but now, I have improved so my experiences turned in to being good. For example, In my History Class I would always go to sleep or talk while the teacher was teaching, now I listen so I can move forward and learn more. Also for example, In my Science class I would just find everything my teacher was talking about boring so would not pay attention, but in my science class i have now, I find it very fun and amusing. My expectations for coming to Parkway West was to become a better person and cooperate more far as activities after school. Also my expectations coming to Parkway West was to get A's and B's and get on Honorole. Since coming to High School I do spend less time with certain people because that are not as much around me as they were before. We go to different schools so we are are apart from each other.  During this year it has been very important events in my life this year. One important event is that  My cousin has had a baby named Aiden Rivers. Also my cousin had got shot on Erie Ave for selling Drugs. Another one is that two of my cousins had went on their prom and both of them graduated.

Spurs & Thunder

Today I read a article called "Parker, Spurs ready to go at Westbrook." This article was published on May 23, 2012 7:36 p.m. This article talks about two different teams that are in the Western Conference Finals. Those teams are the Oklahoma Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs. San Antonio Spurs point guard, Tony Parker and Oklahoma Thunder point guard, Russell Westbrook is ready to go head to head againgst each other. The part that is suprising to me is that a young talented/athletic team is going up against a veteran/old school team that been through this situation before. I would have never thought the Oklahoma Thunder would make it this far. Especially beat the Los Angeles Lakers that easy. Now for the San Antonio Spurs they are veterans so they know how the playoffs and the conference finals should go. They been through this too many times to not know. I hope the Oklahoma Thunder do beat the San Antonio Spurs because they came to far to lose. They are the youngest team in the NBA currently but is playing like they been in the NBA for quite a while. If the Oklahoma Thunder do win many people will be shocked, especially the San Antonio Spurs fans. It would be good to see Russell Westbrook and Kevin     Durant win a championship because they worked hard for it.

Broadcasting...Whiteness

The article that I read today is called "Broadcasting a World of Whiteness." The author of this article name is Jon Caramanica. In "Broadcasting a World of Whiteness"  it talks about how their aren't  many other races on the television shows but their are mostly white people. The article includes that Whiteness is too often invisible on television. For example, "Girls" is one of the shows that they point out. I do agree with the fact that there are not that many shows on network television with diverse casts but if it is a hit and magnificent show, then people should keep the side comments away.  I also think that television producers have a responsibility to put on shows that have diverse casts. Some of those types of shows are sometimes funny and good. But Im still on the side with author. One day I saw a television show called "Family Guy"  which I thought was really racist. I noticed them making asian jokes, mexican jokes and black jokes but never white jokes. Sometimes they would throw a hill billy in their once or twice but that is the furthest they go but the other races they go all in to detail. I also saw another show called 'Dave Chapelle" that was racist. I find this show hilarious but there are here and their comments that are racist.This show is mainly aimed for a white audience. I hope they change the fact that it is not enough diverse cast in television and continue on to keep those hit shows.

New fashion winkle

Today I have read an article called "New Fashion Wrinkle." This article was published by a man named Matt Richtel. New Fashion Wrinkle talks about a one hundred and eighty-two year old clothing company which is designing it's new chino pants that holds a gun inside he pants which is great for hiding the gun.  It was made for you to still have that stylish look without the gun hanging on the side but inside the pants. This will allow people to walk around with a gun  not even knowing they have one on them which makes them become a ordinary person walking up and down the street. Also their are 50 states in america. 37 states now have a "shall issue" statues that require them to provide concealed-carry permits if an applicant meets legal requirements, like not be ing a felon and the other states allow the concealed carrying of handguns without a permit. i think that is a bad idea. Letting a criminal just coming out of jail seeking revenge on the person that put him in jail, would end up in a bloody massacre. Without having a permit will turn into chaos immediately.  Many people might get carried away with the fact of hiding a gun. Instead of just putting the gun their, they might get carried away and slip a pocket knife or flashlight in their. I believe that they should take this fashion away because it might lead into to complete drama.

ipad

 The article that I am reading is called "Human costs are built into a Ipad."This article  talks about the disaster that happened with the Ipad. Their was a  explosion that happened in the Building A5 on a Friday evening last May. The explosion caused many deaths and it came from the area where the workers were polishing the Ipads.Two people were killed, and over a dozen others hurt. When I first heard about it I was shocked how all this happened out of nowhere. I also wondered that if this explosion happened, will it be a delay on selling the ipods and ipads that they were working on.  One of the people that were hurt, was covered with blood with black smeared marks that came from the explosion. Apple is one of the richest and most successful companies out there. They have the best technology's that the world has never seen before. With being the richest and most successful companies, hopefully they will buy another building or fix it up in no time. They will have to get more workers for them to at least get back on track due to the explosion.Working at these buildings can be a dangerous environment and can be a highly risk of it being a problem or a situation  that can cause many deaths. I hope that they can buy another building and keep going with the makings of Ipads and other Mac technology's.

Health Fair

On Thursday April 12, 2012 was a Health Fair at Parkway West High School. This Health Fair was during seventh period in Mr Petro class. In the morning they made an announcement that it was going to be a Health Fair during today. As they told us to come downstairs for the Health Fair that they were having, Mr Petro told us to ask questions for our blog that is due next week. Their were many different things they had for us at the Health Fair. Those things were Condoms,Papers on abortion, Differences between Stds and Stis, eating smart and not doing drugs. For abortion they gave us statistics on the number of abortions per year, number of abortions per day, The ages of who is having abortions, why women have abortions and the likelihood of abortions. Abortions need to stop because you are killing inasant babies that didn't even get to see the world yet. That is not fair. Far as drugs, it can affect you in many different ways. Drugs is not a good thing to do especially when you are in school. Stds and the other diseases are happening because people are not being protected. They are not using condoms and other things that will prevent  this disease. The questions that I asked the people that were at the Health Fair was do they do this every year at a the same exact date. Also I asked why don't they give out other different brands of condoms accept for Lifestyle. I found the Health Fair to be exciting and to be very noteful to me and to others.

I am a Criminal

Today I read an article called "Im a criminal and so are you." This article was published by Michelle Alexander.
This article talks about  how the author says everyone is a criminal, even if you don't kill anyone. For instance J walking is a crime and EVERYBODY does that so they will be considered a criminal. Even the millionares are considerd as criminals. I also would be considered as a criminal because I jaywalk everyday and I stole some candy from the store when I was little. Most people would say criminals would mostly belong in the ghetto but they are in the suburbs. Mainly all over the world if you think about it. One of the things she said that caught my attention was when she asked did they ever smoked pot or got behind the wheel while they was drunk. When they answered yes and said I am not a criminal she said well what are you then. Your are just a person that just haven't been caught yet. With saying that it made me think because I never thought of it that way and that was a clever way to put it like that. For the real felons that comitted a serious crime and got serious time in jail and are not able to vote or do other things should be treated the same way as others. For a example, most people will not consider Barack Obama as a criminal. He is the President of the United States. Even though he is a criminal he will not serve time in jail. Many people are walking this Earth not caught  and just getting away with it.

Facebook is using you

Today I have read an article called Facebook is using you by Lori Andrews. The topic of this article is about  you watching yourself when your are posting  and searching on Facebook, twitter, myspace and so many other websites. When you pick like your favorite books, activities and what college you want to go to on facebook, ads that goes with the topic will pop or be on the side of your profile. For example, if you say you like Abercrombie & Fitch, Abercrombie & Fitch advertisements would come up and you can click on it or not but it will take you straight to the website. The main thing that had me shocked was that people can see your searching and the data that you have. As I am writing now they can see what I am doing. That is uncomfortable to me and maybe to many other people. That is basiclly invading your privacy and invading your personal information and so many other things.  The cookies in your computer is another thing about the advertisements. A cookie is a information storer that stores what you searched and shows advertisements  of what you like. In other country's it is different. They are not aloud to look at your data without your permission or unless you know. To me they should put that in all countries to give people privacy. Definetly in the United States of America. What is the point of looking at people data. This should stop immediately and changed to where you can't see the data like all the other country's.

This article was publlished by a man named Blake Ellis. This story talks about having a bathroom with your name on it.  As included in the article, many people are giving over thousands of dollars to get their name on the bathroom. One of the reprensitives for Harvard Law school donated at least 100,000 dollars in return to get his father's name "William A. Falik" name engraved on the campus bathroom. This January, his father's name was engraved on the bathroom saying, "Falik Malik Mens Room, Gift of William A. Falik' 71, 2012." To have your name engraved on a campus bathroom is decent. When people go to use the bathroom, the first thing they will see when they open the door is your name. But it will be more better to do it for free. In my old school Walter D. Palmer Leardership Learning Partners Charter School, the name that was engraved on our school bathroom door was our founder of the school which was "Walter D. Palmer". Every single day I went to the bathroom I would always forget that his name was up their.  To see that every day made me proud because the founder of the school name is on  the bathroom and will always be remembered their. Also it was a reminder to me. Someday as I get older I will try to get my name engraved on a college or a school so people can remember me as they look outside the bathroom door.

Today I am reading a story called "Randy Moss filed lawsuit against hair salon owner who didn't pay back 160,000." The poblem between them to all started when Moss agreed to lend hair salon owner Kelvin Jones 160,000 to open  a fancy hair salon in Palm  Beach, Fla back in 2005.  Kelvin Jones was supposed to pay Randy Moss back in 96 monthly payments but never did it. During this time Randy Moss the wide receiver was playing for the Oakland Raiders. After that Randy Moss decided to sue him which I don't understand. Randy Moss should have just let this situation go before it even got to the suing part. Instead of him lending the money he should have just gave him the money. Why lend 160,000 when you can just give it to him. Randy Moss makes at least a couple of millions but wants 160,000 dollars back. That is like a dollar to him, why is crying about it. Also Kelvin Jones has to pay Moss back  the 160,000 in full plus the extra 62,000 in interest. To collect all that money to give to Randy Moss, he must save at least for a year and all the money he makes has to go directly to him. I believe this is a situation that could been resolved in the beginning.

For Women under 30, most births occur outside of marriage

The article I read today was called " For women under 30, most births occur outside of marriage." This article was published by two people with the names of Jason Deparle and Sabrina Tavernise. This story is about the increases of births from women under the ages of 30 being born outside of a marriage and how marriages is starting to become uncommon. For example a lady that is twenty-seven is on an on and off relationship where her boyfriend doesn't thinks about marriage at all but the girlfriend does. With saying so, them having differences  may lead to a altercation which will lead to a breakup, leaving the kid with either or parent. People suggest that getting married is already a breakup because for most people, getting married brings new responsibilities to the table and most of the time either or parent can't adjust to the new situation or their just to lazy to take on a new part of life. Also not being married can affect the way the child acts. Children that are mostly born out of marriage tend to act up in school than become a drop out, or have behavior problems and face risks which turns them in the wrong direction like falling into poverty.. I agree but also don't agree because some of my family members was born outside of marriage and didn't succeed far as making it all the way through school. Most of them either ended up sellling drugs or went to jail but the others were brought up in the same lifestyle and are still in school or succeeded in life.  Me being brought up wasn't a hard time. I was raised with both parents and currently is now. Also they had me after they got married and hopefully I will follow the same thing they did. So I prefer the person to get married first then have a kid. If not get married after the son is born. The best thing you would want is for your child to have the best life and that's what my family did for me.

Photoshop or Not

Today the article I am writing about is called Photoshop or Not. This article talks about how people can be cut into different sizes using the computer. For example, if the person is fat and taking a picture for the cover, if she would like or not , she can be slimmer than her usual self or be slim like a model. The photographs of celebrities and models in fashion advertisements and magazines are croped and  polished down to it is that right body. Instead of using some cream or something to take away the pimple, Adobe's Photoshop software can take care of that instantly. Or it can be drastic, shedding 10 or 20 pounds, adding a few inches in height and erasing all wrinkles and blemishes, done using Adobe's Photoshop software, the photo retouchers magic wand. Fixing all these body human parts, you might end up up with Barbie. These pictures are of highly idealized  and digitally edited images in advertising and fashion magazines. What I think about this situation is that it is a good thing. If a person is fat and she is taking a picture for a cover, they can take the fat off that person and make them skinny and look better. I think people should show if they altered the photo because if they don't the photo will be fake. People will wonder how the celebrities got so thin in a quick period of time.

Teaching kids how to break up nicely

The story I read today is about a lady that is in the middle of the situation which is teaching kids how to break up nicely. I think that this article is going deep into the relationships of young kids. Many of the kids like to or forced to break up online. They may break up in different ways. But the most popular website they break up on is Facebook. The lady that's behind the info is named Danah Boyd. The article stated that the high school had a group meeting with high scholars.  In a contrast that causes her no end of mishievous delight, her laptop bears a sticker of snow white, hose outstretched arm gently cradled the apple logo What I think about this story With a number f influential scholarly papers under her name, she travels relentlessly, tweets under th handle Zephoria and has fans trailing her at TED conferences, at South by Southwest and elsewhere on the high tech speaking circuit. She is also a kind of rock star messenger fromthe online and offline world of teenagers. The young subjects of her research become her friends on Facebook and subscribe to her twitter feed.   There is no shortage of grown up distress over the dangers young people face online. Children today are reaching online largely to social canges that have been taken place off line.

Today I  have read an article on MediaTakeo\Out.com. According to Amber's former publicist Janero Marchand, he was FIRED by Amber - when he tried to WARN Kanye that Amber Rose was TAKING his money . . . and giving it to her OTHER  lover.My reaction to this situation was unexplainable. She was taking Kanye West money and giving it to supposedly "Wiz Khalifa." Even though he introduced Amber Rose to Kanye West, and had a friendly bond, he still shouldn't have said that.

I think that she didn't take his money because she is a popular model and have enough money to give to her boyfriend. He pushed hard to make sure that Amber was featured on MediaTakeOut.com.  When Amber found out, she sent the following direspectful email to Janero:I will make sure everyone I know will not work with u b*tch! How dear u be in the studio with kanye and talk MAD SH*T about me!!!! R u f*ckin crazy????I cried days for u Janero!!!!! I will make sure ur blacklisted b*tch! I trusted u and u backstabbed me u aint sh*t but a fake Phony ass b*tch ass f*ggot ass Snitch!!!! I trusted u and u back stabbed my worst then anyone ever!!!! Then u talk about trusting a stripper???? F*ck U janero! U gossip like a f*ggot.Stay the f*ck away from me b*tch and please don't bother to apologize cuz its a rap! 

Duke's Rivers enters NBA draft early, hires agent

The article that I am writing about is called "Duke's Rivers enters NBA draft, early hires agent." This story talks about the freshman guard on his early appearance going to the NBA draft hoping to be near his family.  During college, he played for Duke for one year. Austin Rivers is the son of Boston Celtics head Coach Doc Rivers.  During his college career he averaged a team leading 15.5 points and was selected as Rookie of the Year. He is the third Duke freshman to lead the team in scoring after Johnny Dawkins in 1983 and Bill Sapp in 1945. Austin Rivers is really a competitive player but I think he is not on that NBA level yet. He should have played for Duke for at least 2-3 years. Averaging 15.5 points is not NBA numbers. For him to be in the NBA and dominate he has to at least score 20-30 points to average the team leading. No doubt he will be the talk of the town when he first go the NBA but one question is that will he show magnificient talent on the court. If his dad picks him up for the Celtics I believe he should not be able to start because he is definetly not on rondos level and will not be able to give the celtics that win. So I believe that he made his choice to early.

Dirt Bike tragedy

Today I read a article called "Dirt Bike Tragedy an exaple of a bigger problem". The 14 year old Jermaine Alexander crashed into a vehicle on Frankford Avenue. The cause of this situation that her mother states is that her son died because of a police pursuit. The mother also said, "You got kids out here, killing and selling drugs. I got a kid that rides dirt Bikes and plays football, and that's your concern?"  The department has a no pursuit policy for the vehicles, saying that the dangers of a chase  outweigh the offense.
I am a dirt bike fan but it can be very dangerous. You can either crash into something or get it confiscated by the cops. When I was 11 years old, I had a 90cc which was red and black. I would sometimes ride it in the street but mostly my family would take me to a dirt yard so I wouldn't get it confiscated. One day I was walking down the street and saw a dirt bike accident happen right in front of my face. After that, I stopped riding them. If you don't have the skills to ride it, you shouldn't ride it at all. Dirt Bikes can be very dangerous because it is sometimes to fast for people and that they can't handle it or also might crash into a car. Just like in the story.
I can really relate to this story because I used to like to ride dirt bikes but now its not that important to me.

Ti and Chris Brown

Violence nearly popped off behind the scenes at the VMA's  Media take out spoke with a show insider that claims that rapper T.I nearly came to blows with R&B superstar Chris Brown. One of the Media take outs insiders watch the whole thing unfold. The insider explained," There was almost a fight at the VMA's rehearsals. T.I and Rihanna are doing a Duet and when they were trying to practice, but Chris Brown was their messing things up."According to our snitch, T.I. and Rihanna weren't able to properly rehearse because Chris Brown was distracting everyone by clowning around on stage. The insider told MediaTakeOut.com, "At first it was funny. But after a while it was disruptive."But the Atlanta rapper wasn't about to have his set disrupted for long. The insider told, "T.I. was like - can someone get this little [dude] out of here. And Chris Brown said something smart under his breath - I couldn't hear it."That's when, according to MediaTakeOut.com's witness, things went left. The tipster tells, "TI was like, 'I'm not playing with that boy, I'll hurt him.' And security quickly got Chris out of there. T.I. was definitely NOT joking."Tonight T.I. and Rihanna are going to be performing a duet. It will be interesting to see Chris' face while his girl sings with the dude who bee-yotched him in front of dozens of MTV staffers. What I think about this is that it is out of order. What are they about to fight over it don't make no sense.

Rihanna gettin friendly

There is a new budding friendship between pop star rihanna and forty-seven year old super producer Dr.Dre. According to a rock solid and we mean Rock solid insider, Rihanna and dre were kickin it at a top Los Angeles club earlier this week. That definetly ain't no rumor it is a fact. According to media take out trusted insider, the two both got very drunk, and started being very flirtatious and started hugging each other. Tells the insider," It was embarassing, Dr Dre  was carrying on with that girl in front of everyone." It gets better. Media take out spoke with a different insider who tells us that Rihanna and Dr Dre have some business together too. Word is  that Rihanna is currently negotiating to come out with a new brand of headphones, a line of beats by Dr Dre  earphones for girls. While it's not signed, we're sure that Rihanna's new friendship with Dr Dre is really helping things along. Dang Rihanna we not even mad. Get friendly with Jay-z, go from bad singer to the hottest female pop act in the world. Now get friendly with Dr Dre and end up with a new Headphone line. That's some real female playa ish right there. We can't wait to see how this one plays out. What I think about this is if she doing it big like that she just mines well get friendly with every big baller rapper in the game to get something out of it.

Tornado in Gloucester

                  A tornado has happened on 2011 Gloucester. On the night of April 16, a tornado creating winds up to 165 miles per hour bounced across Gloucester, sowing an 8-mile path of destruction that left two residents dead. Three people have died and at least 60 people were injured in gloucester county after a tornado after the tornado ripped the area. The three deaths were reportedly in the town of coke near Hickory Fork Road. None of the fatalities were in the same family or were in the same homes Gloucester County sheriff Steve Gentry said in a news conference. Some homes in Hickory Fork Road were destroyed, and the hospital in Gloucester County is overflowing. Most of the people who were hurt suffered minor injuries. Tornadoes that strike in this region tend to be short lived waterspouts that reach land or the short spin up cells spawned by summer thunderstorms. "To have on stay on the ground that long around here is definetly rare," Proch said. My reaction to this tornado situation is that it is very sad for people to die like this. This story made me think about the hurricane in New Orleans where it messed up the whole city. They would make funding available for homeowners and renters in the form of disaster housing assistance and low-interest loans and grants.Also hazard mitigation assistance to help local an state and governments work to reduce the impact of future disasters by modifying or remove structures from a hazard area conducting public education campaigns and restoring wetlands and managing soil erosion.

Teaching Kids how to break up nicely

This article is mainly about teaching kids how to break up nicely. The author of this article is Benoit Denizet- Lewis from the new york times. Late last month, 200 teenagers from Boston - area schools gathered to discuss the details of Facebook breakup etiquette. Should you delete pictures of your ex after splitting up? Is it O.K. to unfriend your last girlfriend if you can't stop looking at her profile? And is it ever ethically defensible to change your relationship status to single without first notifying the person whose heart your're crushing? I think that teaching kids how to break up nicely is none of their concern. Kids are going to do what they want to so if they want to do that let them do that. This topic is so irrelevant and can not change the ways of people. This topic reminded me of many friends of both sides. One time this girl broke up with him in school and posted on her facebook that he was a nobody, I only went with him because a girl made me do it and payed me, which was ten dollars. I laughed at the moment but then later I felt bad for him because he was crying. This topic did help me realize something about the world, society, and the way people treat each others.  This article made me wonder about will the same thing that happened to my friend will happen again or will it happen to me differently.

Plan B

Plan B is a Morning after pill that you can use to prevent pregnancy up to five days 120 hours after unprotected sex. Plan B isn't effectiveif you're already pregnant and it won't destroy a existing pregnancy. Plan B does not protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases{STDs}. Plan B One Step should not be used as a routine birth control, as it is not affective. If you have severe abdominal pain you may have ectopic pregnancy, and should get immediate medical help. I go for both ways because each side goes for its purpose. When a young adult[teenager] haves a sexual intercourse with another young adult unprotected they tend to have a baby. Then when they go home and try to tell their mom or dad about that they have a baby, their mom and dad will not go for that. Instead of the argument going on they can avoid it by taking the Plan B One Step pill preventing pregnancy up to five days 120 hours after unprotected sex. The sooner you take the Plan B One Step the better it works. My opinion really doesn't concern me. Each dose contains zero point seventy-five mg of levonorgestrel. The two pills are identical, it does not matter  which pill you take first. However, recent research indicates that both doses can be taken at the same time up to  120 hours after unprotected sex. Plan B One Step gives desperate, scared girls a option to have the baby or use it. This blog relates to my topic which is Plan B.

Penn State sex scandal

This very horrible and cruel what happened at Penn State. Lately their has been a serious problem between the assistant coach and the children. Assistant coach Jerry Sandusky sexually assaulted or had inappropriate contact with at least eight underage boys on or near university property. Being said he has encountered at least a count of 40 child molestation starting from 1994 to 2009.  several high-level school officials were suspended, or dismissed for allegedly covering up  the incidents or failing to notify authorities. Also Joe Paterno, the head coach for Penn State was also from his position and school president Graham Spanier  was forced to resign. For last 23 of those years, he was the team's defensive coordinator. Sandusky was as assistant coach under head coach Joe Paterno for the Penn State Football team for 31 seasons from  1969 to 1969. The investigation was initiated in the spring of 2008, after the mother of a boy (identified in court papers as "Victim 1"), then a freshman at Central Mountain High School in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, reported that the boy had been sexually abused by Sandusky. According to court papers, Sandusky had been having a relationship involving "inappropriate touching" with Victim 1 since 2005 or 2006, when the boy was 11 or 12.In their testimony before the grand jury, Paterno, Curley, and Schultz rejected the version of the incident presented by Mike McQueary. Paterno testified that he was only told about Sandusky "fondling or doing something of a sexual nature" to the victim. Curley and Schultz both denied having been told about alleged anal intercourse. Curley denied that McQueary reported anything of sexual nature whatsoever, and described the conduct as merely "horsing around".
